Kisumu Campus Director Dr. Vincent Machuki attended Climate Change Financing & Governance Forum
The University of Nairobi Kisumu Campus, Director, Dr. Vincent Machuki attended the Climate Change Financing and Governance forum at the VIC Hotel-Kisumu on 4th April 2017. The forum was organized by Transform Empowerment for Action Initiative (TEAM), a civil society organization based in Kisumu County with a core mandate of ensuring that the County and National government have good and constitutionally valid laws that will make it possible to enforce the rule of law. Based on the need to defend the Human rights and Democratic governance, TEAM in collaboration with Freidrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) run a project that is geared towards coming up with a practical work plans to address impacts of climate change and possible decision making processes to provide a conducive and comfortable environment to the communities.
While contributing to the forum during the plenary session, the Director seized the opportunity to highlight how climate change financing and governance can be tackled through evidence based research. He underscored the need for collaborative research between the University of Nairobi and Civil Society Organizations to address climate change issues, key among them, financing and governance. The Director observed that the research can be undertaken within the University of Nairobi’s programmes at Kisumu Campus (Law, Project Planning and Management, Business, and Public Administration); and Wangari Maathai Institute of Peace and Environmental Studies (Environmental Governance). Several participants in the forum booked appointments with the Director to further advance the collaborative research agenda.
