University of Nairobi Kisumu Campus students were privileged to attend a peace building conference, an event that was organized by UCSPAK at Jumia Hotel on 30th July 2016. Peace building is a bold step in ensuring the youth are equipped with the much needed tools to interact with each other and with wider community in a view to actively contributing to conflict prevention and peace building.

The Peace conference was officially opened at 0900 hours by Mr. Antony Agyenta of United Nations Development Program (UNDP). The function was also graced by Mrs. Millicent Otieno - Local Capacity Peace International, Prof. Joseph Sarima -Deputy Vice Chancellor Partnership, Innovation and Research in Maseno University. Mr. Jack Ombaka - Head of Training National Counter Terrorism Centre, Mrs. Teresa Okumu - Assistant Dean of Students University of Nairobi Kisumu Campus and Mr. Steve Obuogo ACCA- Kenya Educational Manager among other guest.

The objective of the conference was to provide participants with the knowledge and skill needed to be more effective in peace building in their institutions of learning and society at large. It also aimed to mentor and advise the students on the importance of upholding national values and becoming important people and responsible citizens.

Education is a key pillar in the building of a united and stable nation, for that reason the education sector must therefore strive to make a significant contribution towards the development of habits, attitudes and character of citizens, which will enable citizens to bear the responsibility of a democratic citizenry.
