The annual observance of the International Day of persons with Disabilities was proclaimed in 1992 by the United Nations General Assembly resolution 47/3. The theme for 2018 was empowering persons with disabilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equality. The national rally to mark the event was held on the 3rd of December 2018 at the National Industrial Training Authority, Kisumu

The University of Nairobi, Kisumu Campus pitched a tent at the event and played an active role in marking the day.  The School of Law, represented by Mr. Ronald Rogo and students provided free legal aid on the rights/responsibilities and concerns of the persons living with disability. The Campus Counselor was also at hand to provide psycho education on breaking down the attitudes, beliefs and assumptions that prevent people with disabilities from being able to fully and effectively participate in society on an equal basis with others.
