Kisumu Campus officially launched the 2nd Open Week at the Campus Complex along Oginga Odinga Street, Kisumu. The theme of the Open Week is “Advancing the Frontiers of Knowledge in the Lake Region and Beyond”. The event is expected to run up to 20th May, 2017, when there will be a grand closure. While presiding over the official launch of the event on 13th May, 2017, the CESSP Director, Prof. Julius Ogeng’o welcomed all the invited guests and participants and underscored the “worldclassness” status of the University of Nairobi. He highlighted the replication of such status at the Kisumu Campus and extended an invite to prospective students to choose the University of Nairobi, Kisumu Campus as a preferred place to pursue their studies. He heralded the commitment of the University to provide quality university education that addresses the unique socio-economic and political issues in the Lake Region. In his conclusion, he beseeched the high school students in attendance to work hard to obtain grades that qualify them for admission to the university to pursue their dream careers.

On May 13, 2017, University of Nairobi, Kisumu Campus carried out a cleaning exercise at Jararamogi Oginga Odinga Referral Hospital as a Corporate Social Responsibility activity. The team, led by Prof. Julius Ogeng'o, Director-CESSP and Dr. Vincent Machuki, Director-Kisumu Campus, was composed of both Staff and Students. The activity was intended to increase community involvement and create awareness of the University of Nairobi brand. The hospital Management appreciated the University for the services offered.

On April 28, 2017 members of Kisumu Campus, led by the Campus Director Dr. Vincent Machuki participated in the "quiznite" organized by Marketing Africa at Acacia Premier Hotel in Kisumu to promote the University programs. The event was attended by several organizations among them Safaricom Kenya, Standard Media group, Multichoice, Kenya Airways, EABL, and Qwetu FM. During the event, the representatives registered several enquiries from potential applicants at the set enquiry desk. Kisumu Campus Brochures were also distributed to the invitees to the event.

The School of Law, Kisumu Campus, hosted a public lecture on Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in collaboration with the Kenyans for Peace with Truth and Justice (KPTJ), a coalition of over thirty (30) Kenyan and East African legal, human rights and governance organizations under the umbrella of the African Centre for Open Governance (AfriCOG). KPTJ was represented by Steve Ogolla (Advocate and Programme Officer), Njonjo Mue (Advocate) and Perpetua Adar (Advocate). The lecture, held from 2.00-4.45 p.m. on Friday, April 21, 2017 at the Campus Auditorium, was attended by forty-eight (48) participants, among them academic and administrative staff, students and representatives of the Campus’s external stakeholders.
