Officials from the University of Nairobi Kisumu Campus, led by Mr. Gerald Ondiek and Registrar, BD. Njuguna, paid a courtesy call on the acting Executive Secretary, Lake Victoria Basin Commission of the East African Community, Mr. Amos Ndoto,[second right] on March 5, 2025 at their regional offices in Kisumu City.
The team held discussions touching on a number of key areas of collaboration between the two institutions. Of importance, the two teams noted, was the sustainability of Lake Victoria due to its socio-economic importance as the Largest water mass in the region. Over time, the Lake has experienced a lot of human pressure due to settlement around it, resulting in pollution as a result of human-related activities.
Mr. Ndoto noted that, the commission would leverage on the diverse expertise at the University to deliver on the commission’s mandate of sustainable management and development of the basin’s natural resources.
On his part, Mr. Ondiek, representing the Associate Dean, Kisumu Campus, confirmed that, The University was ready to partner with the commission through scientific conferences and tailor-made courses.
The two parties committed to continue engaging further in mutual areas of interest.
Present during the meeting were the Commission’s Principal Resource Mobilization Officer, Isaac Nyarwaya (a PhD student at the Campus), Communications Officer, Baraka Karama, BD. Njuguna, Campus Registrar, Public Service Commission Intern Edith Ondara, Campus ICT Officer, Raphael Opiyo, among others.
