On 12 October 2011, the Vice Chancellor (Prof. Magoha) and the Chairman of Department (Dr. Owuor) were invited to Yokohama National University as a way of strengthening and expanding collaboration between the two institutions. They were hosted by the President of Yokohama National University (Prof. Kunio Suzuki) and staff from International Graduate School of Social Sciences. Students from the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies have benefited from a one-semester exchange programme to the University of Jyvaskyla. The North-South-South exchange program is a beautiful experience for any student. Finland is a Nordic country with a small population of 5.4million people as compared to Kenya’s population of 42 million. The one semester away provided an opportunity to sample a different education system, and different culture and different climate which allowed us to grow in many ways.
