2 honorary degrees, 5709 graduates at the 64th graduation ceremony

The Chancellor, Dr. Vijoo Rattansi has conferred honorary degrees of the University of Nairobi on Prof. Julia Ojiambo, Chair of Council and Prof. Micere Mugo at the 64th Graduation Ceremony. The two have now joined the list of eminent persons who have received the prestigious award bringing the number of honorary degree holders of the University of Nairobi to 35. In addition, a record 5,709 have been conferred degrees and awarded diplomas at the graduation ceremony held on December 11, 2020 at the Great Court, Main Campus.

UoN celebrates 50th anniversary in style

There was pomp and colour as the University of Nairobi celebrated its 50 years of existence since its inception in 1970.

On December 10, 1970, Kenya’s first president, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta led the nation in celebrating the birth of the nation’s first national university at the Great Court and was installed as Chancellor having been awarded the first honorary degree of Doctor of Laws (Honoris Causa). On December 10, 2020, from the same grounds, the Chancellor, Dr. Vijoo Rattansi led the University community and stakeholders in celebrating 50 years of academic excellence.

Collection of certificates - September 25, 2020 graduates

All graduates of the 63rd Congregation for the conferment of degrees and award of diplomas held on September 25, 2020 are requested to collect their certificates at the University of Nairobi Central Examinations Centre, Chiromo Campus in the following order:

1.         MONDAY, OCTOBER 26, 2020 – FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2020

                        ALL MASTERS DEGREES AND POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMAS

2.         MONDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 2020 – FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2020

2851 graduate at virtual graduation ceremony

A record 2,851 graduands were conferred degrees and awarded diplomas by the Chancellor, Dr. Vijoo Rattansi at the 63rd Graduation Ceremony on September 25, 2020 held at the Great Court.

The graduates who followed the ceremony virtually consisted of 54 Doctor of Philosophy Degree Awards (PhDs), 370 Master Degree Awards, 15 Postgraduate Diploma Awards, 2045 Bachelor Degree Awards and 367 Diploma Awards.

Kenyan & Ugandan lawyers discuss environmental protection

The School of Law has officially kick-started a capacity building workshop for Kenyan and Ugandan Lawyers on protecting the environment and biodiversity in upstream mining, oil and gas.

The workshop organized in collaboration with Makerere University, African Development Bank African Natural Resources Centre and the African Legal Support Facility is expected to run from September 14 to 19, 2020 exclusively online via zoom.

VC welcomes over 10,000 new students

The University of Nairobi has welcomed over 10,000 new students for the Academic Year 2020/21.

The new students have been admitted to the six UoN Colleges and the ODeL Campus. This admission process is an important milestone in the history of the University of Nairobi as it is the first time that the institution has conducted end to end academic processes using online platforms.
